In the wake of Tuesday’s horrific shooting at UNC-Charlotte, police at East Carolina University are urging every student to download an app that could help keep them safe if a similar situation unfolded here in the east.

It’s called LiveSafe and police say it can provide students, faculty and staff with a direct connection to campus safety.

Officials say the app allows users to share information, tips and safety concerns through text messages, picture, video, and audio messages.

The app will also provide maps that can display where incidents have happened recently and point students to safe locations.

The app also has a feature called safewalk which is a GPS monitoring feature you can activate to let your friends and family know where you are.

Officials say once students and staff download the app they need to choose East Carolina University as their affiliation.
