Trump now wants to shut down the Mexican border. First he wanted to build a wall, he got it. Now, he decides to shut the whole thing down completely. So does that mean we no longer need a wall? Or does the wall re-enforce the shut down?
Either way, Congress is definitely not going for a border shut down. To other countries, it would make us look even worse. It could effect trading in industries such as auto manufacturing, retail and fresh produce, and also effect travel in & out of our country for those who are legal. In the words of White House officials, closing the border would be “catastrophic.” Prices on good would immediately rise.
Trump has also decided to cut off aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras because he thinks these countries “set up” migrant caravans to come to the U.S. The White House would like these countries to “do more” to help lessen the crisis of the southern border, since President Trump blames Central American countries for the crisis. In October, Trump threatened to cut off aid to these countries in a tweet, saying they “were not able to do the job of stopping people from leaving their country and coming illegally to the US.”
Some experts are saying that cutting off aid will not stop people from coming to our country.
Mexico must use its very strong immigration laws to stop the many thousands of people trying to get into the USA. Our detention areas are maxed out & we will take no more illegals. Next step is to close the Border! This will also help us with stopping the Drug flow from Mexico!
