NC MedAssist will hold a Mobile Free Pharmacy Event in Greenville, NC on Saturday, April 13. The event, which is in collaboration with HealthAssist and Vidant Health, is open to any individual or family needing over-the-counter medications.

The event will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. James United Methodist Church (2000 E. 6th Street, Greenville, NC 27858).  Identification is not required to participate but individuals must be at least 18 years of age.

If you would like to volunteer, please visit www.medassist.org/volunteer to sign up.

Individuals will receive up to eight (8) OTC items for their family/home. Information will also be available on enrolling in the NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program. NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.

There will also be local organizations to provide different types of free health screenings (i.e., foot clinics, blood pressure, etc.)

“We are looking forward to bringing the NC MedAssist Mobile Free Pharmacy to Pitt County,” said Shantell Cheek, Regional Coordinator/Director for the HealthAssist Uninsured Program. “The Mobile Free Pharmacy event is an opportunity for us to make an impact on the health and wellness of the community. We look forward to helping provide health resources and education to individuals and families in this community.”

There are currently over 41,000 people in Pitt County that live below the Federal Poverty Level and do not qualify for insurance.  Last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed over $68.5 million in free prescription medication statewide.  For more information on the Mobile Free Pharmacy and NC MedAssist, please visit www.medassist.org.

To ensure the event runs smoothly and that all participants (up to 800 at times) are served before the doors close, many volunteers are needed. NC MedAssist is partnering with HealthAssist and Vidant Health and other safety-net organizations to recruit community members to serve in volunteer roles such as pharmacy consultation, client ‘personal shoppers’, and sorters.

If you would like to volunteer, please visit www.medassist.org/volunteer to sign up.
