President Donald Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen has been sentenced to 3 years in a federal prison.
Cohen plead guilty to both lying to Congress over a possible Trump Tower Moscow project and to campaign finance violations for paying “hush money” to women who had alleged affairs with Donald Trump. In the trial, Cohen’s lawyers were asking for him to serve no prison time. Cohen mentioned Trump in his defense saying that his “blind loyalty” to the President “led me to take a path of darkness instead of light.”
Trump has disowned Cohen, calling him a liar. “Michael Cohen is lying and he’s trying to get a reduced sentence for things that have nothing to do with me,” the president told reporters last week.
