Power Out in Kinston, Crews Suspended Due to Wind Gusts

Electric crews in Kinston have suspended operations due to heavy winds in the area. There is also an outage near Lenoir County Courthouse. According to WNCT, “Operations will continue to be suspended until wind gust drop below 40 miles per hour.”

All residents are asked to stay inside their homes. There is also still room available at area shelters. As of 6 p.m., Lenoir County officials said here a combines 404 people in all three shelters. They have room for at least 1,600.

Shelters are located at:

  • Lenoir Community College, 231 N.C. Hwy 58, Kinston
  • North Lenoir High School, 2400 Institute Road, La Grange
  • South Lenoir High School, 3355 old Hwy 11, Deep Run

As it continues to rain Kinston police are asking drivers to stay off the roads. Lenoir County does not have a curfew, and the city does not anticipate enforcing one during the storm.
