An Edgecombe County Sheriff deputy, David Manning, 24, passed away on Sunday after being involved in a car accident.
The crash happened as Manning was pursuing a vehicle on Hwy 111, outside of Tarboro, when he lost control of his patrol car on a curve. The deputy was thrown from his vehicle when he hit a Chevy pickup truck head on. The two passengers of the Chevy suffered minor injures. Sheriff Clee Atkinson Jr. said his office received word about the crash around 6:17 p.m. Sunday.
“I am truly saddened by the loss of one of our deputies as a result of this collision,” Sheriff Atkinson said in a statement. “Our hearts go out to both families involved. Please keep us all in prayer.”
The incident is being investigated by the Highway Patrol.
