Serena Williams appeared on CNN recently and shared the story of how her daughter Alexis Olympia arrived.
Serena says she had to have an emergency C-section on Sept 1st after Olympia’s heart rate plummeted during contractions. Following the surgery, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot blocking arteries in the lungs. Her coughing got so bad that it reopened her C-section wound, forcing her to have another surgery.
Doctors ended up finding a large hematoma in her abdomen, which was causing the clots to travel to her lungs. Surgery fixed the issue, but Serena spend the following 6 weeks on bed rest.
We are happy Serena is doing better!
