The first list of artists for the inaugural Kite Festival has been announced, including Grace Jones, TLC, Tom Misch, and Mavis Staples.
This Is The Kit, Saint Etienne, Seun Kuti and Egypt 80, Nubiyan Twist, Flamingods, Mermaid Chunky, Baxter Dury, Confidence Man, The Orielles, Gwenno, Katy J Pearson and Fran Lobo are also scheduled to perform during June 10-12, 2022, at Kirtlington Park in Kidlington, Oxfordshire.
The event also includes talks and debates with influential speakers, comedians, artists, writers, activists, and thinkers.
The speakers set to appear at the festival, held across seven stages, range from Jones to former U.K. Foreign Secretary David Miliband to stand-up comedian Reginald D. Hunter.
Festival director Ciro Romano said the organizers are thrilled to have developed a new greenfield festival that puts music and ideas on equal footing.
“At Kite, thinking and dancing can co-exist. Lockdown has clearly not quashed our need to have communal experiences which explore our passions, curiosity, and joy,” Romano said. “Kite will engage with the most vital artists, musicians, writers, and public figures in one setting over three days. We couldn’t be more excited and look forward to having you join us at Kirtlington Park next June.”
The inaugural edition of the Kite Festival was postponed due to the pandemic.
