I just finished The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+ and man… this was FIRE.
I thought it was amazing. Ultra violent, dark, gritty.. exactly what I want from a Punisher story. The Punisher and Deadpool have always been my two favorite Marvel superheroes, so anytime Frank Castle gets some shine, I’m already locked in. But this one delivered.
Jon Bernthal was incredible again. At this point, he might be one of my favorite modern-day action stars. He just gets Frank Castle. He doesn’t play him like some regular comic book hero. He plays him like a broken man who’s still walking around because violence is the only thing keeping him moving.
What I really liked was Frank’s struggle after killing the Gnucci family. You can tell he felt like he had nothing else to live for once that was done. That part felt real. Like… what happens when revenge is the only thing keeping you alive, and then you finally get it? Where do you go from there?
And it looks like Frank still has more work to do.. because it seems like Ma Gnucci is still out there somewhere. So now I’m really curious to see where they take that story.
The action was crazy. Like I said, this thing is ultra violent. Disney did not soften Punisher up at all (thank God for that). Frank Castle is supposed to be brutal. He’s supposed to make you uncomfortable sometimes. That’s what makes the character work.
And Jon Bernthal? Man, that guy was BORN to play this role. Every look, every fight, every quiet moment felt like Frank was carrying the weight of everything he’s lost. He makes you feel the pain behind the violence, and that’s why this version of Punisher hits harder than most.
The only thing I didn’t love was that CGI face scene. I’m not gonna spoil it, but if you watch it, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. That scene looked a little off and kinda took me out of it for a second. Not enough to ruin the movie, but enough to annoy the hell outta me.
Other than that? I loved it.
It’s already confirmed that we’ll see The Punisher again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and I’m excited to see where Frank Castle goes from here. Putting him anywhere near Spider-Man could be really interesting if Marvel handles it right, because those two characters see the world completely different.
Overall, The Punisher: One Last Kill gave me exactly what I wanted: brutal action, a darker Marvel story, and another great Jon Bernthal performance.
I’m giving it a 4.5 outta 5.
