Kevin Durant is giving back to his hometown of Prince George County, Maryland. On Wednesday, he has opened “The Durant Center,” a facility geared towards “helping low-income and underserved students enroll and graduate from college.”
The center is an after-school facility as well as an academic, financial and social-emotional resource to help with college and career development. Over the past 10 years, Kevin has given $10 million College Track, an organization that uses a 10-year plan to help students from their early teen years through college graduation by offering tutoring services and college scholarships. After visiting one of their centers in Oakland, he decided to collab with them, creating their first site on the east coast.
Elissa Salas, the chief executive of College Track said, “It wasn’t so much that he didn’t want to do something in the Bay, but he was looking to really invest really deeply in his home community.” The grand opening of “The Durant Center” took place on Wednesday during the Warriors visit to Washington D.C. to face the Wizards.
