Some Americans have still not received their $1,200 share of the $2.2 trillion CARE Act that was approved in March. With more than 30 million people across the country out of work, some Democrats feel that the one-time checks of $1,200 are not enough to get people through this pandemic.

Democrat lawmakers, Reps. Ro Khanna and Tim Ryan, are fighting for Americans to get $2,000 monthly payments until this crisis is over. The Emergency Money for People Act would give cash payments to Americans over the age of 16 who earn less than $130,000 annually. An extra $500 per child would be given to parents for up to 3 months and would last for 6 months.

An NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll released Wednesday revealed that 50 percent of Americans said they or someone in their household has either lost a job or had their hours reduced as a result of the virus outbreak. That is up from 18 percent a month ago.

The bill originally had 17 co-sponsors who were all Democrats, but since being introduced, it has gained 10 more Democrat co-sponsors. The bill is still in preliminary stages.
