It looks like R. Kelly is not having the same luck as Tekashi with getting out of prison in hopes to get away from the high risk of coronavirus inside of prison.

US District Judge, Ann Donnelly has denied Kelly’s request to be released from jail, as Kelly claimed there was not enough being done to keep him safe. Arguing that a recent surgery puts him at higher risk of getting the virus. The judge said that there are no confirmed cases of the COVID-19 at the jail Kelly is currently at, adding that the Bureau of Prisons are taking various measure to make sure the virus does not come into the prison, including suspending social visits and inmate transfers.

“The defendant is currently in custody because of the risks that he will flee or attempt to obstruct, threaten or intimidate prospective witnesses,” Donnelly wrote. “The defendant has not explained how those risks have changed.”

“He does not explain how his surgical history places him at higher risk of severe illness,” he said. “Moreover, officials in Chicago have advised the government that doctors have completed all treatment for the defendant’s recent operation.”
