Rihanna to Receive NAACP President’s Award

Rih Rih may not have dropped an album in a while, but she’s still out here making moves!

Due to her contributions to music, fashion, beauty and philanthropy, the NAACP announced on Tuesday that Rihanna will be receiving the President’s Award at the upcoming NAACP Image Awards on February 22nd. She will join other winners like Jay Z, Lauryn Hill, Muhammad Ali, Jesse Jackson and more. Recipients of the President’s Award are in “recognition of special achievement and distinguished public service.”

NAACP President Derrick Johnson spoke about Rihanna’s impact saying, “Rihanna has not only enjoyed a groundbreaking career as an artist and musician but has also distinguished herself as a stellar public servant. From her business achievements through Fenty to her tremendous record as an activist and philanthropist, Rihanna epitomizes the type of character, grace, and devotion to justice that we seek to highlight in our President’s Award.”

The award is well deserved with. Over the past few years, Rihanna has started Fenty Beauty, Savage x Fenty, LVMH Fenty and raised over $2 billion for global education. Each year, the singer hold her Diamond Ball, through her Clara Lionel Foundation, which she started in honor of her grandparents. The foundation supports and funds “groundbreaking and effective education and emergency response programs around the world.”
