Judge Mark Cummings of the Guilford County District has resigned as the result of a yearlong state investigation into multiple reports of misconduct.

In September 2018, an investigation was opened into reports of Cummings allowing court documents to be falsified, forcing prosecutors to dismiss charges in a case, changing a bond amount set by a higher court and filing to run for office in a district he didn’t live in, among other accusations.

Cummings has denied all of the allegations, but agreed to resign from office and never run for a state judicial office again. In a post on Facebook, Cummings announced that he has retuned to private practice.
