On Saturday night, shortly before 8:00 p.m., Greenville police received a report of shots fired at the Community Crossroads Center, located at 207 Manhattan Avenue.
Officers were advised one person had been shot inside an office and the shooter was still in the building.
Once officers were on the scene, the suspect complied with the officers’ verbal commands and surrendered. The suspect, who is believed to have been staying at the shelter, was taken into custody without incident.
Timothy Early Purvis, 45, has been charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, 1st Degree Kidnapping, Assault by Pointing a Gun, Going Armed to the Terror of People, and Possession of a Firearm by Felon. He is currently in the Pitt County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.
A gun was also recovered.
Officers discovered one male victim, a shelter employee, suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip. The victim’s injuries are considered non life-threatening.
Approximately two dozen people were inside the shelter at the time of the shooting.
The motive for the shooting is still under investigation; however, it appears the shooting stemmed from an earlier dispute.
The victim, 47-year-old Timothy Glen Short, of Ayden, is still recovering at Vidant Medical Center.
