The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two women were found dead in the bathroom of a Pikeville home on Wednesday evening, according to a press release.

According to authorities, EMS and deputies were dispatched to a home on Perkins Road at approximately 6:53 p.m. in reference to a shooting call. Deputies and EMS arrived on scene and found the caller on the front porch of the home. The caller then told deputies to enter the home and go to the bathroom, officials said. Once in the bathroom area of the home, deputies found two women dead inside.

One of the women had “an apparent gunshot wound and the other appears to have died as a result of a gunshot wound,” the release said.

One of the women was 39 years old and the other was 58, authorities said.

Detectives were asked to come to the scene to investigate the deaths. “Interviews have been conducted and at this time the investigation remains open as additional interviews need to be conducted,” the sheriff’s office said in the release.

Based on the investigation so far, authorities believe one of the women died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and “the investigation continues into the manner of death of the second individual.”

The sheriff’s office said a weapon was located at the scene.
