The official cause of death has been revealed for “Young and the Restless” star Kristoff St. John who passed away last month. The L.A. coroner’s office found that St. John died from heart disease and an accidental alcohol overdose. The hypertrophic heart disease made it difficult for the heart to pump blood and can often go undiagnosed. St. John was apparently on an alcohol binge at the time of his death.

Since the suicide of his son Julian in 2014, Kristoff has been having a hard time coping, having to check himself into UCLA Medical Center for depression in January. In 2017, Kristoff allegedly threatened to take his own life leading cops to place him under a 72-hour hold for psychiatric evaluation.

Kristoff won 9 Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his role in the “Young and the Restless,” also winning 10 NAACP Image Awards.
