Police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead in Kinston Monday night.

The Kinston Police Department Police responded to a call of multiple gunshots in the area of 912 East  Highland Avenue around 10:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, they found 29-year-old Rasheem Thomas of Kinston suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

The murder investigation is in its preliminary stages.
