Rumors started yesterday that Nicki Minaj would be honored at the National Museum of African American History. After a picture from within the museum was tweeted by a visitor of Nicki in one of the many displays, the rumor was that Nicki would be presented with the “Pioneer of Hip Hop” award, honoring her contributions and achievements to the hip hop and pop scene throughout the past decade.

Turns out, this is not happening. There was a clear misunderstanding and the Smithsonian took to Twitter to clear it up. Clarifying that “Nicki Minaj is not honored in our Cultural Expressions exhibition, but is included in a video compilation exploring African American culture including style, identity, footways and artistry.”

The museum is located in D.C., one of the latest editions to the Smithsonian museums, highlighting our African-American culture by our musicians, comedians, athletes, creatives and more
