It is finally happening, Cyntoia Brown has been granted clemency. She was serving a life sentence for killing a man who brought her for sex when she was only 16 years old. She will be released to parole supervision on Augst 7 after serving 15 years in prison. Governor Bill Haslam s the one who granted her clemency.

Cyntoia thanks Governor Bill in a statement, “For your act of mercy in giving me a second chance, I will do everything I can to justify your faith in me. With God’s help, I am committed to live the rest of my life helping others, especially young people. My hope is to help other girls avoid ending up where I have been.”

Governor Bill says, “This decision comes after careful consideration of what is a tragic and complex case.” He continues, “Cyntoia Brown committed, by her own admission, a horrific crime at the age of 16. Yes, imposing a life sentence on a juvenile that would require her to serve at least 51 years before even being eligible for parole consideration is too harsh, especially in lights of the extraordinary steps Ms. Brown has taken to rebuild her life. Transformation should be accompanied by hope.”

Cyntoia has had a lot of support for several years and so many called for her clemency and now she finally live the life she always wanted.
