Paula Dance Sworn In As NC’s First African American Woman Sheriff

Paula Dance has officially been sworn in as Pitt County sheriff. She becomes the first African American sheriff in Pitt County and the first female African American sheriff in the state of North Carolina.
The ceremony was attended by elected leaders from the across the region and state.

Deputies within the department were also sworn in at the ceremony.
