The Greenville man accused of shooting and killing a woman last week is being held behind bars under a $2 million bond. George Knight, 32, of Greenville has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 27-year-old Shantelle Pope.

Shantelle was shot just before 9 p.m. on November 12 near Tyson Street and Colonial Avenue. She passed away at Vidant Medical Center two days later.

According to WNCT, “She was with two other people at the time of the shooting, and police do not believe she was the intended target. Knight’s arrest was a joint effort between members of the Greenville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, Emergency Response Team, FBI Fugitive, and Missing Person Task Force and Major Crimes Unit.”

George Knight also faces life in prison or the death penalty. His next court appearance is scheduled for December. Authorities said more arrest are possible.
