Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for one of the suspects in the shooting of a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper, according to the new release Wednesday. Jon David, District Attorney, made an announcement that Columbus County grand jury issued an indictment for first-degree murder against Chauncy Askew in the shooting death of Trooper Kevin Conner.

Chauncy Askew, 18, was arrested on October 23 in South Carolina. According to WNCt, “Conner was shot Oct. 17 around 12:15 a.m. while conducting a traffic stop on U.S. 701 near Sellers Town Road in Columbus County.”

The second suspect and the driver was identified as 20-year-old Raheem Davis. The trooper pulled the car over for a speeding violation. As Kevin made his way to the car, the driver fired several shots, hitting Kevin in the head and torso.

Raheem is set to appear in District Court on January 17, 2019.
