Hurricane Florence Ready: Preparing for a Power Outages and Power Outage Status!

Power outages are common when tropical storms hit. There are several steps you can take in advance to be ready for Hurricane Florence.

If You Lose Power: 

  • Use a flashlight for emergency lighting, not candles
  • Turn off electrical equipment you were using when the power went out
  • Avoid opening the refrigerator and freezer
  • If you use a computer, keep files and operating systems backed up regularly. If you need must evacuate, take the backup files with you.
  • Get a high-quality surge protector for all of your computer and home theater equipment
  • If you have an electric garage door opener, find out where the manual release lever is located

Some counties have been experiencing some power outages. Here is the list and the number of customers that have lost power so far:

  • Carteret County: 33,000 customers out
  • Craven County: 13, 979 customers out
  • Jones County – 1,789 customers out
  • Onslow County – 27,494 customers out
  • Beaufort County – 9,408 customers out
  • New Hanover  – 2,538 customers out
  • Pender County – 10,634 customers out
  • Hyde County – 648 customers out
  • Pamlico County – 8,393 customers out
  • Pitt County – 807 customers out
  • Lenoir County – 1,145 customers out
  • Greene County – 323 customers out
  • Duplin County – 1,717 customers out
  • Edgecombe County – 172 customers out
  • Martin County – 370 customers out
  • Tyrell County – 75 customers out
  • Washington County – 400 customers out
  • Nash County – 259 customers out
  • Wayne County – 3,654 customers out

Current statewide power outage total is at 615,849. The counties with the highest concentration are Beaufort, Brunswick, Carteret, Craven, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Wake, According to North Caroline Emergency.
