As the new school year is approaching for many, Meek Mill is in a giving mood. According to a press release, Meek donated over 6,000 backpacks to students in his hometown of Philadelphia early Wednesday morning (Aug. 29).

Via Billboard, “Not only were students gifted backpacks, but they also were given new school supplies. PUMA, Fanatics and Milano Di Rouge joined Meek’s back-to-school initiative and provided supplies to schools across 12 SDP public schools.”

Meek said, “Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for the kids,” Meek said. “Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right now with the right supplies.”

Meek visited two of the public schools, most notably his alma mater, James G. Blaine Elementary school.
