Beyoncé and Jay-Z to Headline Global Citizen Festival in South Africa

It was just announced Beyoncé and Jay-Z are the headlining acts for the Global Citizen Festival in honor of Nelson Mandela in South Africa this year. According to Page Six, “The Dec. 2 concert in Johannesburg is part of events marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the anti-apartheid leader and Noel Peace Prize winner, organizers announced Monday.” Other artists that will be headlining include Usher, Pharrell Williams, Ed Sheeran and African artists including Cassper Nyovest, Femi Kuti, and Wizkid.

During the festival, Oprah Winfrey will also give a keynote address on the legacy of Nelson Mandela who passed away in 2013. Actors Forest Whitaker and Tyler Perry will also host the festival. The purpose of the Global Citizen movement is to end extreme poverty by the year 2030.
