Southwest airlines just cut $5000 checks for passengers who were on a Tuesay flight from NY to Dallas. An engine exploded in mid-air, killing one passenger, and forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Philly. Broken parts from the fan blade that snapped in the engine, caused a window to break and a passenger was partially sucked through a window. She died from the blunt impact.

The checks issued to passengers was labeled a “ goodwill gesture for the ordeal” by Southwest. Passengers also received a $1000 voucher for travel on Southwest.

“We value you as our customer and hope you will allow us another opportunity to restore your confidence in Southwest as the airline you can count on for your travel needs,” the letter said, according to recipient Kamau Siwatu. “In this spirit, we are sending you a check in the amount of $5,000 to cover any of your immediate financial needs.”
