If you are in need of a shelter during Hurricane Florence, we will provide you information on where you can go as we received it for each area. Check back for updates frequently!

Lenoir County: 

  • Lenoir Community College, 231 N.C. Hwy 58, Kinston
  • North Lenoir High School, 2400 Institute Road, La Grange
  • South Lenoir High School, 3355 Old Hwy 11, Deep Run (CLOSED – NO POWER)

If an overflow shelter is needed, it will be at:

  • Kinston High School, 2601 N. Queen St., Kinston

Beaufort County: 

  • P.S. Jones Middle School
  • Washington High School
  • Louisburg Armory (200 S. Bickett Blvd)

Bertie County: First Baptist Missionary Church of Powellsville opens Thursday, Sept 13th at 12noon

Craven County: 

  • Havelock High School (101 Webb Blvd, Havelock)
  • Brinson Elementary (319 Neuse Forest Ave, New Bern)
  • Farm Life Elementary (2000 Farm Life Ave, Vanceboro)
  • Trent Park Elementary School located (2500 Educational Drive, New Bern)
  • Sanford Army National Guard Facility (Out of county – 2214 Nash Street in Sanford)

     

Carteret  County:

Newport Middle School – 500 E Chatham Street, Newport, NC

  • bring personal items such as baby supplies, medication, water (1 gallon per person, per day), non-perishable food, can opener, flashlight with extra batteries, personal hygiene items, clothing for several days, comfort items such as bedding and important documents in a waterproof bag

N.C. Emergency Management officials tell us that ALL Wake County shelters are full. They are now directing anyone that still needs to evacuate to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem. LJVM is PET-FRIENDLY.

Hyde County:

N.C. Emergency Management officials tell us that ALL Wake County shelters are full. They are now directing anyone that still needs to evacuate to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem. LJVM is PET-FRIENDLY.

Duplin County will be opening shelters on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at the following locations:
– Wallace-Rose Hill High School (602 High School Rd, Teachey)
– Beulaville Elementary School (138 Lyman Rd, Beulaville)
– North Duplin High School  (1388 NC-403, Mt Olive)
– James Kenan High School (1241 Nc 24 And 50 Hwy, Warsaw) (pet-friendly facility) – Pet owners should bring a kennel for their pet, along with pet food, medications, and other necessary pet supplies. Pets will be housed indoors but in a separate location from shelter occupants.

In Nash County, locations will be:

  • Nash Central High School, located at 4279 Nash Central High Rd, Rocky Mount.
  • Southern Nash High School, located at 6446 Southern Nash High Rd., Bailey.

Shelters in Edgecombe County will be:

  • D.S. Johnson Elementary School, located at 600 N. Fairview Rd., Rocky Mount.
  • North Edgecombe High School, located at 7589 N.C. 33-NW, Leggett.
  • Tarboro High School, located at 1400 Howard Ave., Tarboro.
  • Martin Millennium Academy, located at 400 E. Johnston St., Tarboro.
  • GW Carver Elementary School, located at 604 E. Hamlet St., Pinetops.

Primary shelters for Camp Lejeune & MCAS New River are as follows:

.       Wallace Creek Fitness Center, Bldg. WC-100 (Max. Capacity: 620)
.       Tarawa Terrace II Elementary School, Bldg. TT-84 (Max. Capacity: 400)
.       MCAS New River Gym, Bldg. AS-4000 (Max. Capacity: 125)
.       MCAS New River Fitness Center, Bldg. AS-4400 (Max. Capacity: 200)
Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune will serve as a storm shelter for expectant mothers who fall within the following criteria:
.       37+ weeks or further along in your pregnancy (TRICARE patients).
NMCCL has compiled a list of patients who are 37+ weeks or further along for
confirmation.
.       Classified as a very high risk pregnancy.  You will be called by a
provider today (September 10) for confirmation.  If you have questions about
your very high risk pregnancy, you may call Triage at (910) 450-3003.

– The Pitt County Animal Shelter (4550 County Home Road) will be open to pets beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m.
